Ensemblen fick sitt namn efter den berömda Codex Bologna Q16 som innebär endast musik utan text från det tidiga 1400-talet. Denna musikgrupp är alltså en Alta Capella i sin äldre form: två skalmejor och en renässanstrombon och dessa instrument stämmer perfekt överens om den musik som finns i skriften. Det betyder alltså ett gällt ljud på en alto skalmeja i g, ett tenor röstläge som spelas ihop med renässanstrombon i c och kontratenoren som passar bäst till en renässanstrombon.

Alla tre medlemmar är kunniga blockflöjtspelare därför är det också möjligt att byta till en mildare typ av instrument och man spelar alltså inte alltid så högljutt dvs alta.

Repertoaren erbjuder medeltida musik från och med huset Tudor till och med en period när en större samling på det funktionella och ceremoniella musikspelandet skapades av Holborne och Brade.

Vad det gäller fler deltagare med ytterligare tonsättningar eller den s k repertoaren tyska Stadtpfeifer tilläggs en eller två sinkor och en renässans trombon till eller en dulcian.
