Het ensemble werd genoemd naar de bekende Codex Bologna Q16 die muziek zonder schriftuur inhoudt uit de vroege 15e eeuw. Het ensemble is inderdaad een Alta Capella in zijn vroege vorm: twee schalmeien, en één trombone. Het past perfect bij de muziek uit het manuscript: hoge stem voor alto schalmei in G, tenor voor de schalmei in C en contratenor, deze past best bij elkaar op een renaissancetrombone.

Alle drie leden zijn ook bevoegde blokfluitisten. Daardoor kan ook zachter gespeeld worden.

Het repertoire varieert van middeleeuwse dansmuziek, aan het hof van de Tudors tot de grote collecties van functionele en ceremoniale muziek van Holborne en Brade.

Behalve grotere stukken en het Duitse Stadtpfeifer repertoire voegen wij 1 of 2 zinken en nog een renaissancetrombone of een bass dulciaan toe.
